Tracing Human Interaction

$4,000.00

Something as seemingly insignificant as a glass bead can tell historians much about early human interaction.

Description

36” x 48” Watercolor and Ink on Ampersand Claybord

Beads are artifacts through which early human migration and trade can be traced. Samples found in archaeological excavations provide evidence that beads created from natural elements in known global locations were transported great distances to new destinations. Later, glassmaking advances provide additional information about transactions between early world cultures that were known for making particular beads. This painting symbolically shows both beads in strands as well as those that have become unstrung. Framed in a deep ebony-stained oak frame, the overall measurements are 39”(W) x 51”(H) x 3.25”(D).
