Description

26” x 40” Watercolor, Ink and Acrylic on Yupo Paper

I have had an abiding fascination with trade beads in my painting. Trade beads serve as a visual metaphor for global interaction in my artwork. Beads created in one area of the world were transported over land and ocean and were intermingled with beads created in another, creating a new entity. Over time, these small yet highly powerful artifacts traveled from one human to another, and often served not only as status symbols, but as a form of international currency as well. Sometimes buried and later unearthed centuries later, trade beads remain as evidence of transactions over time. Framed in a black shadowbox frame, the overall measurements are 29”(W) x 43”(H) x 3”(D).
