This colorful painting is a miniature, measuring only 6 x 6″. It captures the reflected color of foliage in the rippling water of Spearfish Creek.
Reflections as seen in Spearfish Creek as it runs through beautiful Spearfish Canyon drew my eye to the peaceful stillness of the Black Hills.
Painting with watercolor on the clayboard, I am able to layer color in the same manner as applying glazes in an oil painting.
I am exploring the unique effects I get from painting with watercolor on a specially prepared board, called clayboard.
Once an artist has stood on the spot, breathed in the air and heard the sounds native to a particular location, it all comes back when seeing the art: I love that!
