The Badlands at Dawn, Watercolor painting on paper

This is the first painting of the day that I painted on site at Badlands National Park.  The sun was just coming up, and there was a pinkish glow in the sky and upon the landscape.  The colorful striations within the formations were glowing.  The area around me was perfectly still except for occasional bird calls echoing through the canyons.  Totally amazing and beautiful: something I will definitely be doing again!
