Ambrose tricked the enemy into mounting onto the rear of his horse during battle as he thought him a fellow Blackfoot. Ambrose then stole the gun, and killed him with it.

A stick such as this could honor a favored and equally brave horse wounded or killed in battle.
Having died in battle, a fallen Cheyenne warrior is honored by a depiction of his shield and riderless horse in this historic image. In my painting, the significance of the circle and the medicine wheel are suggested within this painting, by the repeated circular shapes.
