Shirley Basin Wyoming area, 12 x 36 oil on canvas

This is one of my favorite horizontal format paintings from my Plein Air adventure in Wyoming.  I loved seeing the sage green contrasted with the ochre of the grass, and teal of the distant hills.  It was a beautiful experience! Painting the image in an extreme  horizontal format was my way of trying to capture the grandeur of the area.  Vast and wide open.  Not many places left on earth like this…

Painted for the Prairies to Peaks Plein Air event August 1 – 13, 2011.  This painting is on display at Deselms Gallery in Cheyenne, WY through Sept. 30th.
